Rain in the time of water logging…

Drop of monsoon rain does not make us think of khichur and hilsa, it is not about romantic rickshaw ride, not even young boys playing football in rain. The first thought that comes to our mind is the water-logged Dhaka city and the hours of traffic congestion.  New Age youth satirically asked students today about their experience rain in water-logged Dhaka.

How much do you ‘enjoy’ rain when water-logged city comes to a stand-still?

Abu-sayedRain is a wonderful gift of nature to all mankind. It gives new life to earth. With the falling of rains everyone gets happy. But most of the time, rainfall in Dhaka city creates water logging which is a key problem in recent few years. If it rains for an hour, most of the roads of city become drenched. It hampers the normal functioning of peoples and water logging turns into a burden. Because of water logging, chemical waste, industrial waste and human waste get mixed with water and increase water born diseases. Vehicles can’t move freely. That’s why I never like water logging in Dhaka city. Lack of well planned drainage system and lack of consciousness among general people are responsible for this problem. Government initiative and public awareness are needed to solve this problem.

RoyNo matter what, I love rain. Every drop brings different beauties in different cities and villages. But in our capital Dhaka, the aftermath is horrible. Almost the most of the places in Dhaka go under water. People suffer, most specifically people going to work places and institutions. In some places, the situation becomes so grave that people can’t travel peacefully, even with or without vehicles. Also, the water logging causes so many different critical situations that people at a time; actually begin to loathe rain and its aftermath. Water logging after rain is not only a problem of our country but also a problem in various countries. To solve this problem, we, as in our people and the government, need to take some immediate steps.

So it can be said that, though I love rain very much and enjoy it, I can’t say the same for everyone else because of water logging after raining and all the other problems that come after raining. Even I also strongly dislike the water logging problem of our country. It should be taken care of immediately by our country because it is creating many other problems.

SabreeUndoubtedly, rain is one of the most beautiful moments of nature. It is the relief giving moment in the time of dolefulness. But sorrowfully the rain has lost its beauty in Dhaka city. It’s become a common scenario in Dhaka that an hour of heavy downpour can brought Dhaka city to a near collapse. It causes severe traffic jams in the heavily inundated streets. This water logging becomes a burden for the inhabitants of Dhaka city. This rain water becomes polluted as it mixes with solid waste, clinic waste, domestic wastes and other human activities that increase water born diseases. Workers and students suffer more because of this water logging. The main reason behind it is the lack of proper maintenance of existing drainage system and over and above disposal of solid waste into the drains and drainage paths. Government should take proper steps to improve this horrible situation as quick as Fagunpossible. Otherwise, the country’s image will continue to be tarnished in the eye of international community. Last of all, rain is blessing no doubt but there is no way to like this boring water logging in my Dhaka city.

For me rainy season is full of beauty but all that admiration vanishes when I have to face so much trouble because of it. It’s nice to stay at home and see the rain washing over the city but when you’re amid that chaos, life becomes hell. The main problem is the water-clogging in roads and the traffic jam it creates. Dhanmondi 27 is one of the roads prone to drowning by the slightest of rainfall and it’s also the shortest way to my campus. Because of this I got to experience what if feels like to be stuck in one place for hours. It was on a wretched morning in the previous week. It had rained the whole night and the road had drowned. Without knowing that I left home with the intention to attend my classes. Well let’s just say I didn’t make it to class that day.
