The Indigenous Youth Conference 2017 held

The Indigenous Youth Conference 2017 successfully ended in Komolganj, Moulvibazar with strengthened solidarity among a rising indigenous youth leaders of Bangladesh. The youth leaders present vowed to continue their communications and networks in order to work for a better future for indigenous people in Bangladesh.

Kapaeeng Foundation organised the three day conference held on 16-18 October with support from the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh at Heed Bangladesh Training Centre in Moulvibazar, Sylhet. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Empowered Youth, Enlightened Future.’ In the conference, 35 indigenous youth leaders from different regions of the country, representing about 20 indigenous communities and 15 organisations participated.

The main objective of the conference was to strengthen their capacities on issues of human rights, leadership and globally emerging issues such as Sustainable Development Goals and to strengthen the solidarity and networks among them.

The youth conference was composed of interactive technical sessions on basics of human rights, leadership, human rights instruments with specific focus on indigenous people, sustainable development goals and the role of indigenous youths in addressing human rights violation in their respective communities.

Finally, the indigenous leaders present in the Indigenous Youth Conference 2017 discussed about possibilities for working together and made strong commitments for staying connected in order to address the ongoing oppression and repression facing indigenous peoples across the country.
